Balducci's Supermarket Balducci's has a long history starting in New York City's Greenwich Village. It was originally founded in Brooklyn in 1915 by a young Italian man with the last name of Balducci. Originally a small fruit and vegetable stand, by the mid 1940's they opened their first retail store in Greenwich Village. The store grew larger and larger until they opened up a big store that would rival the best and most famous supermarkets in New York City. These days Balducci's is a quick growing company. Balducci's merged with two other companies and now has a new management team in place which plans large growth. Now there are 10 Balducci's Supermarkets and five restaurant in the Mid Atlantic region. Balducci's offers specialty foods and regular everyday foods and they are known for great product and mouthwatering food and preparation. Also, more and more Balducci's is known for offering the world's best foods that are hard to find in other stores. Each store has different departments which offer the best there is. The delicatessen and salumeria features old world style cured meats and smoked fish. They smoke their own turkey and find the best prosciuttos' from Italy and other places. Balducci's hires chefs to work in the stores so the prepared food section is outstanding. Try their display of fusion and vegetarian foods or horseradish Salmon and grilled lamb burgers. In the same manner, the bakery is packed with delicious breads and pastries prepared by on-site bakers and pastry chefs. The produce section displays only the best produce, much from the Amish country during the planting season. The seafood is usually the freshest around and the cheese section will keep you busy for hours. Most stores have a floral section as well as a great beer and wine section and quality meats.
